Choosing a sewing machine

This is the most popular question I’ve been asked. So where to start and how to choose a right one for you?
First of all make sure that you are looking for a popular brand as Juki, Janome, Brother, Singer etc. There is two types of domestic sewing machines, mechanical and computerised. Mechanical machines are very easy to operate and aren’t heavy whether the computerised are pretty heavy because of the build in computer, also they will need regular service by a professional, although they are very quiet.
Here are the main criterias to look for:

• Machine has different stitching options apart from straight stitch ( zigzag stitch, buttonhole, stretch etc)
• Many different foots (buttonhole foot, invisible zipper foot, walking foot) although you always can buy additional foots afterwards.
• Built-in free arm. It results when you detach a part of the sewing machine base. The free arm allows sewing of narrow cylindrical or tubular items such as pant legs or sleeves.
• Automatic needle threader. How many times you was straggling to insert thread into the needle hole? This function just makes everything so much easier!
• Moveable Needle Position. Having multiple needle positions can be helpful with zippers, edge stitching, and difficult to sew areas.
• Metal frame rather then plastic. Make sure that machine is not made all from plastic, it should have a strong base, which means that your machine will last you longer.
